The Available Light: Student Edition is a complete 36-week, approximately 140-hour photography elective for students ages 13 to 18. The Classroom & Co-op License gives an instructor, co-op leader, or hybrid-school program the same complete program, licensed for a group of students learning together rather than one household.

What’s included

Every classroom license includes the full program: five student sections (Learn to See, Learn the Techniques, Build Your Portfolio, Showing Your Work, Photography as a Future), Start Here, and complete Parent Course Administration materials, the syllabus, assessment rubrics, hour tracker, optional letter-grade method, Portfolio Quick Guide, and Final Course Record. Also included: an editable portfolio template, the Photographer’s Notebook, and an editable completion certificate.

How group administration works

The instructor or program leader supervises the whole class, the same way a parent supervises one student in the household edition. Each student completes their own hour tracker, assessment record, and portfolio, duplicated from the included templates, so every student finishes the year with an individual, documented body of work, even though the class shares one license. Equipment stays simple. A smartphone or any camera is fully suitable, no specialized equipment is required, and no photography background is required of the instructor.
